The Importance of MAP Testing

Parents,

This year the MAP test will be used for retention meetings, Honors course selection, and to determine areas of focus for classroom, after school, and Saturday tutoring. Therefore, it is imperative that students do their best on the MAP test.

Promotion Guidelines:

Students on Grades 6-8 must score in both Reading AND Mathematics NWEA MAP testing at or above the 10thpercentile at least once throughout the current school year. Our campus may apply for a waiver for the NWEA MAP promotion standard (as low as 7th percentile) within our district.

If a student passes STAAR assessments in Reading and Mathematics then that student will be exempt from the NWEA MAP promotion requirement.

A message from Mrs. Chasteen, Dean of Students

I am meeting with all the students to reiterate campus expectations and safety. The 3 main topics discussed are dress code, tardiness and safety.

As authorized by state law and the school’s charter, students are required to wear uniforms to school. The school’s uniform policy and grooming standards are established to teach grooming and hygiene, create a safe and orderly environment, instill discipline and eliminate competition and distractions caused by varied dress styles. Students are expected to arrive in a proper school uniform every day, display modesty and neatness and take PRIDE in their uniforms.

Tardiness to school and class is not permitted. Instruction time is lost, which can often make it difficult for students to fully understand the academic concepts. If your child arrives after 7:55am, it is almost impossible for them to make it to their 1st Block on time, which begins at 8:00am. Please ensure your student arrives to school on time to avoid consequences.

Safety remains our top priority. For this reason, we will continue our monthly safety drills. In the Advisory Sessions, I speak to the students about the need to always be prepared, in the case of an emergency. Their full cooperation is expected during safety drills. In the coming days and weeks, we will practice additional lock down drills. Please discuss the importance of these drills with your students.

Our Tigers are awesome! It is such a joy and pleasure to work with your students. Thank you for your continued support in regards to the importance of discipline and safety at the Harmony School of Innovation- Fort Worth.

With Tiger PRIDE,

Mrs. Chasteen
